Nigel Freeman was invited on stage to congratulate Chris Price, after he was named as our new President. Chris takes over from our first President Janice Freeman who passed away last year. Janice had held this honorary title from 1992 – 2005.
In Phil High’s absence, Ollie Newman collected the Warwick & Worcester Premier Division 2 trophy, which dates back to 1899. Nigel Freeman collected the first of his many prizes, average winner with a plus of 134.
Jonathan Blakeman collected the Warwick & Worcester Alliance Division 4 trophy along with league and club average winner medals for his plus of 173.
The Oldbury side had finished runners up in Division 1 to the George. Nigel Freeman collected his average winners medal, again with a plus of 134. He was also runner up in the league averages.
In his first season for the Oldbury senior’s side, Frank Newman won both club and league averages. Nigel and Amanda Freeman then collected a trophy after they finished runners up in the Roy Freeman Memorial Doubles. The West Bromwich team was the only Broomfield side to finish outside the top two in terms of league positions – Jonathan Blakeman collected the average winners medal.

The Smethwick ‘A’ side finished runners up and Ollie Newman was presented with a medal for league and club average winner. The first Janice Freeman Club Handicap was won by Nigel Freeman, a new trophy was presented for this occasion. Nigel then collected the Roy Freeman Club Championship for the fourth time. Keith Lawlor was runner up in both of these competitions. Nigel has now won both the Championship and Handicap two years running, a feat only previously achieved by his father Roy.
Ollie Newman and Matt Barnwell were awarded with a share of prize money after they came runners up in the Pheasant Aggregate Pairs.
The Ray Law Club Person Of The Year was put in the name of Broomfield B.C after a very successful season. The club have managed to turn around the doom and gloom of the past two years. Our new President Chris Price collected the trophy on behalf of the club.
The Arse Of The Year was shared between Terry Jones and Matt Barnwell. Terry for paying out his change as an extra prize on the card and also for falling through the bar like Del Boy at the Dudley presentation. Matt’s contribution was being locked in the toilet of a plane for 30 minutes on his way back from a business trip.
Flowers were presented to the two women that Broomfield can’t do without. Lynne Lawlor for the food and Sheila Newman for the upkeep of the pavilion and surrounds. |
